“Matthew Nicholson brings a puppet rodent, named (naturally) Rats, adorably to life..."
- Tracey Sinclair, The Stage
I have also worked in the North East as a puppeteer in A Christmas Carol (Life and Limb Puppets), Inspookters (Happy Hazard) and most recently The Sorcerers Apprentice (Northern Stage). I have also trained with Life and Limb, Merlin Puppet Theatre, Mirth & Misery and Chloe Flockhart in a range of puppetry techniques. In addition, in 2017 I received a performance bursary from Moving Parts Puppet Festival.
In 2018, my theatre company Happy Hazard successfully applied to create a short, family-friendly show for the Beverley Puppet Festival. In just 2 short weeks we created Inspookters which was met with admiration from youngsters and exceptionally experienced puppeteers alike.
The following year, myself and Calum Bruce (co-artistic director of Happy Hazard) were offered a performance bursary for the Moving Parts Puppet Festival. During this time is when we received world-class training by Indigo Moon, Merlin Puppet Theatre, Mirth & Misery and Steven Mottram.
